Lifeline Chaplaincy Volunteer Retreat
Trinity Pines
January 21-22, 2011

Last weekend over twenty Lifeline pastoral care volunteers from across the state gathered at Trinity Pines Conference Center in Trinity, TX, for a retreat. The weather was cold and crisp, but the spirit was warm and glowing. Each city in which Lifeline has a ministry presence was represented; volunteers from Houston, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Austin, Temple and other cities renewed friendships and established new ones. On Friday evening David Martin led a thought-provoking discussion on selected scenes from the film Shadowlands, based on C.S. Lewis’s experience of grief following the death of his wife. Jesse Stroup ended the evening with an inspiring devotional sing-along of treasured hymns. On Saturday, Paul Riddle led a session on spiritual renewal for pastoral caregivers which included an introduction to contemplative Bible reading that was well received by all participants.

The volunteer retreat is the one time each year when volunteers from all over the state gather in one place. This was our seventh retreat, and it has become a valued tradition and an important way for us to remain connected to one another and to the tap root of our caregiving – our relationship with God.
