You
cannot prevent the birds of sorrow from flying
over your head, But you can prevent them from
building nests in your hair.
--Chinese proverb
Facing Serious Illness
Adjust
to new limitations without becoming passive.
Love and be loved.
Remind yourself: no one is an island.
Educate yourself about treatment.
Maintain hope, dignity, and purpose.
Allow feelings to be expressed.
Remember: Jesus wept.
Feed yourself with the Living Bread.
Meditate.
Let your mind work with your body.
Receive the support offered by caring people.
Remember we can only live one day at a time.
Claim the gift of God's presence.
