Lifeline Chaplaincy Tarrant County Needs Volunteers!

Lifeline Chaplaincy’s continued expansion in Tarrant County has created a need for more volunteers – in every area of the ministry, according to Tim Johnson, Lifeline’s Director of Development for the Northwest Texas Region. The ministry is in need of more people and more churches to become involved with filling the needs of those Lifeline serves.

“Lifeline’s ministry of care continues to expand to more hospitals in our area, as our reputation for professionalism and compassion becomes better known. This is causing an increase in the need for even more trained volunteer chaplains” Mr. Johnson said.

He is also quick to point out that while the volunteer chaplains may be the most visible, Lifeline depends on an army of other volunteers as well. “Lifeline has many people who work behind the scenes to make sure Lifeline can meet the needs of those we serve. Currently we are in need of more people to work with our Soft Touch Ministry, by making pillows and other comfort items which our chaplains give to hospital patients” Johnson said. According to David Martin, Director of Spritual Care in Tarrant County, Lifeline volunteers gave over 2,200 comfort items this year and are currently having to rely on volunteers from other parts of the state to meet the need. “While the pillows and other items are not difficult to make, there are several guidelines that have to be kept because these are going into the hospitals and to sick people. We have to make sure that the items are free from allergens, smoke, and other things that might hurt people who have an already weakened immune system” Dr. Martin said.

Lifeline Chaplaincy is also in need of administrative and governing volunteers. These people give of their administrative talents to help Lifeline’s organization function with efficiency and to stay true to its mission. Each region has a development board which is tasked with helping to raise the needed funds for the ministry in that area, plan special events, and act as representatives for Lifeline Chaplaincy in the community.

If you are able to help in any of the above areas, please send an email to Tim Johnson at tjohnson@lifelinechaplaincy.org and he will be sure to get you the information you need.

Volunteers & Hospitals

From David Martin

When Jesus walked this earth, people were healed and reconciled to God by simply touching him or being touched by him.  When he physically ascended, he also sent his spirit to comfort us, and established his body on earth, the church.

Lifeline Chaplaincy is a hand and a foot, if you will, of the church.  We walk into hospitals, bringing the touch of Christ to those who are sick.  The healing and reconciliation are ultimately the purview of Jesus, but we deliver that touch in human form.

We are a part of the body of Christ, doing what followers are asked to do for the sick (Matthew 25:36, “I was sick and you visited me…”).

This year, Lifeline Chaplaincy Tarrant County has touched 3400 patients with concern, care, and compassion.  Next year, Lord willing, we will visit hundreds more as four more volunteers come on board next January, bring our healing community to over 20 people visiting the hospitals each week.

Please keep us in your prayers that we would know when to speak, and when to be silent.  Pray that we will walk tenderly with those suffering great losses, and hold them gently in their struggles.
